Ask a solicitor about your situation
Say what happened. A solicitor who acts for injured people, and for people a claim is made against, will contact you. The free tools and the guides come first on this site; this page is for when they are not enough. No obligation.
Frequently asked questions
How much does this cost?
Asking carries no obligation. If you engage the solicitor, their fees are agreed between you and them, they must give you a written costs notice under section 150 of the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015, and they may not charge personal-injury fees as a percentage of damages (section 149). No solicitor pays InjuryWise for introductions: a sponsoring firm pays a fixed fee that does not depend on your enquiry (Solicitors Act 1954, section 62).
Who will see my details?
Only InjuryWise and the solicitor firm. The form collects your name, email, what it is about, when it happened, how you want to be contacted, and a phone number only if you give one or ask for a call. It does not ask what happened to you, for a respondent's name, or for anything you typed into a tool. You can ask for deletion at any time.
What happens next?
Your enquiry reaches the solicitor within a minute. They contact you, usually within one business day, the way you asked. Whether you go further is your call.
Do I need a solicitor at the Board at all?
The Board says you do not, and many people apply without one: the form, the medical report and the fee are the whole application. A solicitor earns their fee where an assessment is rejected and the matter goes to court, where the figure is a High Court one, where the claim is medical negligence or a fatal one, or where the injured person is a child. The guide on claiming without a solicitor is honest about it.
Is there legal aid for a personal injury claim?
Civil legal aid rarely covers a personal injury claim; the Legal Aid Board's page says what it does cover. The Citizens Information Board and FLAC's free advice clinics can point you in the right direction.
Does anything here go to the Board or an insurer?
No. InjuryWise is independent. Applications are made to the Injuries Resolution Board at injuries.ie; we never make or submit a claim. Nothing on this page or in the form is sent to the Board, to an insurer or to any court.
Information, not legal advice. No page or tool here gives a figure for your claim, a view on who was at fault, or a recommendation to claim: those turn on facts a page cannot see, and the Board or a court decides them. InjuryWise is an independent site, not affiliated with the Injuries Resolution Board (PIAB), the Judicial Council, the Courts Service, the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal, the Department of Social Protection, the Law Society, any insurer or any solicitor's firm. It covers the Republic of Ireland only. For decisions about your own situation, speak to a solicitor regulated by the Law Society of Ireland.
