Chapter 1 of 9: The first week: Checklist builder
What do I do now? The first-week checklist
Checked 14 October 2026against the Board's making-a-claim page, the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004 and the Acts named on each step.
The first week decides what evidence exists. These are the steps from the Board's own pages and the Acts, by situation: the record a doctor creates, the reports that have to be made, the photographs and names that cannot be got later, the one-month letter, and the things an insurer would like you to sign. Steps, not advice on whether to claim.
What happened? Pick the situation
The checklist is the same for everyone in that situation. It does not assess your accident, does not say whether anyone was at fault, and does not say whether you should claim.
